Water trucking extended to 14,000 people in Lahj
Following the failure of two municipal boreholes, daily deliveries began in June.
Two municipal boreholes serving the eastern districts of Lahj failed within a fortnight of each other, cutting off the only piped supply for roughly 14,000 people at the start of the hottest month of the year.
The branch opened an emergency water trucking operation on 12 June. Eight tankers now run a fixed daily rotation to 26 community tanks, delivering an average of 15 litres per person per day.
Alongside deliveries, hygiene promotion teams are visiting households to reduce the risk of waterborne disease while storage conditions remain improvised.
Trucking is a stopgap. The branch is working with local authorities on borehole rehabilitation so the service can be handed back to the municipal network before the end of the year.
